There are certain wearing characteristics of carpets which no manufacturer can change.
Fluffing and shedding This is a problem during the early life of a carpet and will diminish naturally, The vacuum cleaner should be used with caution during this time.
Shading Plain carpets will show dark and light patches in a relatively short period of time, the finer the yarn the more these effects will become.
Equalising wear Carpet squares can be turned, but in the case of fitted carpets, re-arrangement of the furniture is advisable to even out the wear.
Fading Carpets in common to all textile materials cannot be dyed fast to light, rooms facing the sun are more likely to be affected, alteration in shade due to wear and tear is wrongly attributed to fading, soiling also causes change in shade.
Wearing Characteristics Certain types of carpet have inherent tendancies these are well known as not manufacturing faults, a few of the more obvious tendancies are 'Walkout' flattening of the shag pile and other long pile carpets with low tuft density. 'TV Shuffle' excess wear in front of chairs. 'Pilling' because of the method of manufacture, a loop pile carpet is always likely to create loose ends, which roll up into small balls, this is known as 'Pilling', these should be clipped off with scissors and not pulled out, certain types of berber can create more pilling.
