How to measure a room -
You need to measure the room at its longest and widest points,
always measure into any recesses, including bay windows and door shuts - remember to measure up to the flooring that meets the room, as this is normally slightly further than the skirting board.
then add on 5-10cm to allow for cutting in when fitting.
If you are measuring for carpet
you need to allow for the roll width, normally 4m, for example if your room is 3.10m x 3.70m you will need to buy 3.10 x 4m, if both dimensions are over 4m then you will either need a 5m wide roll or a join, please contact us to see if the carpet you like is available 5m wide.
If you are measuring for laminate flooring
you only need to work out the square metres, for example if your room is 3.10m x 3.70 then you just times these two dimensions together ie. 3.10 x 3.70 = 11.47sq.m, then add on 10% for wastage.
How to measure a hall, stairs and landing.
for the hall and landing you will need to draw a diagram of any shapes involved, measuring all sides and measuring into all door shuts, for straight stairs you need to measure the width and then the tread and riser together,
When you have done that, draw to scale a 4m wide roll then insert your areas into the roll so you will know how to cut the areas out of the carpet. remember to keep the pile running the same direction in all 3 areas.
